A mixed bag: Ontario imported an astounding amount of hops in 2015 which is great! But we used to be a top hop manufacturer in the world until that pesky blight ruined our industry.
Across Canada, hop acreage is estimated at 259.5 acres, according to the most recent update from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food & Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), with Ontario accounting for about 23% of that total.
The demand for hops by Ontario’s brewers continues to surge with imported hops reaching $7.13 million so far in 2015, accounting for 53% of Canada’s total hop imports.
